Japanesque '94 (Issey Miyake Vest)

Rachel's Story

I like a lot of Issey Miyake’s early patterns. In the early 90s I was exploring garment making using Ikat fabrics and decided to the Ikats with an Issey Miyake vest pattern that I’d found. Ikat is a dyeing technique from Southeast Asia that uses resist dyeing prior to dyeing and weaving the fabric. In the case of this vest the fabric is a traditional Japanese woven fabric made of cotton. I made the vest unlined so that it would be light weight for summertime wear.
