The Coat Maker Series: Adire in Blue

Writer's picture: K. ClarkK. Clark

This coat is made using vintage Adire cloth, aka Yoruba cloth. Adire is the name given to indigo dyed cloth produced by Yoruba women of south western Nigeria. Nigerians use a variety of resist dye techniques. The African animals are selectively cut from a South African overdyed fabric. I added Cherrywood fabric, wax print, and African batik as supporting fabrics. The lining is a beautiful wax print that I received from Joyce Lund. I love the Hippo!
